Here’s the kicker: Manson took over 150 hours of Scientology courses, rejected it as too crazy, and then went on to murder a whole bunch of people.

Bullshit.
Manson was in a Church of Scientology ONCE, and was rejected perfunctorily after a personality test, which determined him to be a “type III” (psychotic). Manson was denied services at ANY Scientology organization from then on out.
The Manson urban legend has been used to mudsling Scientology all through the eighties. Recently, some anti-religious nuts resurrected this bit to mudsling some more.
